Tatiana An is a contemporary painter who has exhibited extensively all across Europe and internationally in New York, Miami, and Toronto. These typically mid-sized acrylic paintings contain lush colors and vibrant brush strokes reminiscent of great post-impressionist artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. Containing classical, refined subject matter such as intimate gardens, grand pianos, or vibrant fruit still lifes, Tatiana expresses these objects with a mix of bright lucid colors and strong neutral tones. Tatiana conveys a sense of grand poetry in strategic placement of tone which are carefully placed capturing of both delicate and harsh light and shadows.Â
The paintings can be described as configuratively centered with complex, stretching compositions making her subjects central to the viewer’s eye. There appears to be art nouveau design elements in the formations of decorative patterns within the subjects such as intricate foliage elements, designed backgrounds, intricate fruits, and detailed Baroque markings on a piano. Tatiana emphasizes flatness in various tones and while also creating strategic renderings emboldening her subjects, causing them to pop out towards the audience.Â
Mozart, Fantasy in D Minor (pictured above) remains one of Tatiana’s most vibrant works. Unlike her other paintings, she doesn’t overwhelm the audience with lucid colors but rather with strategic bright oranges placed sporadically in a designed baroque fashion against neutral and dark tones. The interior and floors are painted with loose shadows and organic shapes of grays, subdued indigos followed by marks of orange mixed with earthy tones to direct the viewer’s eye around the surface. A delicious, lush painting which remains striking and emboldened towards refinement as well as expression.Â
Tatiana An creates fascinating compositions which are expressive yet new and refreshing. She builds upon great expressionist artists of the past and presents her paintings with a contemporary surface full of lively patterns. She blocks in solid forms reminiscent of post-modern design elements fused with lucid brushwork and colors from impressionist and post-impressionist eras. Containing deep, crisp geometric shadows and organic shapes of light, she enhances her subjects with a sense of contrast and an improvised color palette. Tatiana An’s works will stand the test of time with her bridging of both contemporary and 19th century techniques as well as being remembered as someone who created paintings full of life and refinement.
